Suzume is the coming-of-age story of 17-year-old Suzume. She travels to various disaster areas in Japan where she must close doors that cause destruction. Suzume's adventure begins in a quiet town on the island of Kyushu (in southwestern Japan), where she meets a young man who says he is looking for a door. In a deserted place, Suzume finds a detached weathered door in the midst of the havoc that seems unaffected by the disaster. Because the door mysteriously attracts Suzume, she opens it, after which doors open all over Japan and everything around them threatens to be destroyed. To prevent more disasters, Suzume must close the portals. 17-year-old Suzume's journey begins in a quiet town in Kyushu when she encounters a young man who tells her, "I'm looking for a door." What Suzume finds is a single weathered door standing upright in the midst of ruins as though it was shielded from whatever catastrophe struck. Seemingly drawn by its power, Suzume reaches for the knob…. Doors begin to open one after another all across Japan, unleashing destruction upon any who are near. Suzume must close these portals to prevent further disaster. The stars. The sunset. The morning sky.
